How to compare Loan Estimates
- Ask for quotes on the same day, same loan amount, same lock period — rates change daily.
- Page 1: compare the rate, monthly payment and whether there's a prepayment penalty or balloon payment.
- Page 2, section A (origination charges): points and lender fees — this is where lenders really differ.
- Sections B–C (services) and E–H (taxes, prepaids) are mostly the same everywhere; don't let them hide section A.
- Page 3: the APR and "In 5 years" totals compare the full cost.
- Ask the most expensive lender to match the cheapest offer — it often works.
